KatieCercone.com | @parvati_slice | Victory to the Mother! was a female-led collaborative sacred arts initiative encompassing a nature-based wellness retreat and a culminating socially engaged, participatory hip-hop yoga puja. Drawing from my work pioneering a unique fusion of hip-hop and yoga, this work calls on ancient earth-based wisdom. Victory to the Mother! is a decolonizing initiative centering ancient female archetypes and BIPOC-wise ways. Knowledge of demons/spirits puts us in the right relationship with the land. A stomped prayer, in African languages there’s no distinction between “music” and “dance,” what today’s neuroscience calls the “biotechnology of group formation.” Our juicy rituals invoke a future-forward stance centering spiritual ecology as essential to life on Earth, invoking the ecstatic roots of religion and the divine Mother-power. Tracing back to when India and Africa made up one supercontinent, in the realm of its Queen Mothers, the yogic Lotus symbol of light into dark “Heaven on Earth” was a living metaphor of fertility and renewal. As a socially engaged, femme-led participatory public ritual, our project promotes land and food justice, femme leadership, belonging, wellness, and health freedom – merging ecofeminism with abolition and wellness in a playful, accessible hybrid.
