@kaltra | kaltras.com | Digital photo collage of my homeland, Albania. Albania was colonized for hundreds of years and colonizers brought patriarchal ideologies that women are still suffering from today. Femicide is still a problem in the 21st century, this is a result of the toxic patriarchal ideas left from colonization. This collage combines images of Albania where my grandmother was forced to do hard labor to plant trees along the shore to stop erosion, images of ruins of ancient Illyria (where women were warriors just like the men), images of the lagoon where the flamingos are now in danger because of the new airport being built too close to the lagoon, etc and more. The image of my cousin speaking to a shepherd symbolizes the generations coming together to overcome the patriarchy/corrupt government by connecting with each other and the land and hope for a better future.
