The Scars, digital print.

@neuroscipunk | The Scars declares the right to masculinity as a natural thing to be celebrated for the transmasculine individual in defiance of The Patriarchy. Those who have been hurt by The Patriarchy’s violence, from the oppression of the femininely assumed to the pressure to overcompensate masculine traits to be accepted within its machine, are left with significant metaphorical and physical scarring. Masculinity has falsely become The Enemy because these traits hearken patriarchal values. In transmasculine spaces, there is a fear of becoming the oppressor in the act of “becoming” a man. For this reason, many transmasculine individuals will postpone actions that affirm their truest selves from healthcare to masculine socializing. The desire to participate in masculinity is not a moral wrong and should be embraced by those who are drawn to it. The imagery shows the industrially masculine that may appear to be violent from the outside, yet on the inside one sees a dance among men, the circular blade used for creation, and the grotesque act of copulation as pleasure. A pansy, a historic symbol of queer masculinity, invites vulnerability from the unseen trans man. To participate in this masculinity is to reconnect with nature and one’s fellow man.
